Immerse yourself in the history of Patmos

Patmos served as a pivotal crossroads for civilizations spanning all continents. Its strategic location made it a haven and vital station for ships traversing Asia Minor, Cyprus, Egypt, mainland Greece, Rome, Spain, and North Africa. Here it is common to find fragments of the clay storage vessels known as amphorae used by merchant ships throughout antiquity to transport cargoes of wine, olive oil and other goods.

Explore shipwrecks in Patmos

Patmos provides the opportunity of wreck diving at two locations, a small motorship and a WWII airplane. “Captain Manolis” wreck, is a small cargo ship that sank on Christmas Day 1950 at the northern tip of Patmos. It is located at a depth of between 14 and 5 meters and offers a beautiful diving experience for divers of all levels. The reef on which the wreck of Captain Manolis is located is full of life!

A wrecked warplane awaits

At the southwestern end of Patmos, at a depth of 14 to 24 meters in the lap of a magnificent reef is the wreck of a World War II warplane. It is a special diving site in Patmos, for experienced divers as it is combined with underwater caves and rich marine life.
